Facts

BLAST along with the co-petitioner Naripokkho filed the PIL being aggrieved by the inclusion of a gender- discriminatory and arbitrary clause in the job circular of Bangladesh Bank for the post of Assistant Director (General). There was a mandatory requirement to provide husband’s residential address of the female married applicants as their permanent address. 
The petition was filed to take appropriate action for eliminating this gender based discrimination, in particular discrimination based on marital status, and ensure equal opportunities for women  to seek public employment.

Details

After hearing the Hon’ble High Court Division issued rule upon the respondents to show cause as to why they should not be directed to delete clause No. 14 from the impugned circular and take immediate effective initiatives to ensure that a policy to address gender based discrimination is adopted within the Bangladesh Bank.
