Facts

“Khapravanga Dona River” has served as a safe harbour for fishermen who can easily take shelter in Mahipur and Alipur fishing ports of Patuakhali during natural calamities. The local people of Latachapli union of Kalaparaupazilla mostly depend on fishing in the river which is their sole source of earning. Some unscrupulous individuals and groups have encroached on both sides of river inflicting serious impact on the ecosystem of the river, its navigability, riverbed areas, local inhabitants and the livelihood of the people.

Details

The High Court Division on 18.09.2014 issued a Rule Nisi to show cause as to why the respondents should not be directed to prevent and remove all illegal encroachment and establishments on “Khapravanga Doan River” and why they should not be directed to prepare a comprehensive list of encroachment and illegal possessors and to free the river from illegal encroachment through evection by way of proper demarcation.
