The pond in front of Dacope Upazilla Parisadh provides drinking water, particularly in dry seasons to thousands of villagers of the Dacope Upazilla Parisad. The water bodies of the area are salinised and this pond is one of the few to meet the water demands of the people. The Chairman of DacopeUpazilla decided to fill up this pond for the purpose of creating a playground.

The High Court issued a Rule Nisi upon the respondents to show cause as to why the impugned decision to fill-up of the public pond situated in front of the Dacope Upazilla Parishad should not be declared to have been taken without lawful authority and why the respondents should not be directed to protect and maintain the pond for the interests of the public. The decision to fill-up the pond has stayed for 4 months.
