Facts

BLAST filed a writ petition challenging the continued detention of fourteen Indian nationals in Rajshahi Central Jail under Section 4 of the Bangladesh Control of Entry Act, 1952 and the failure to take any effective steps for their repatriation even after they had served out their sentences.

Details

The High Court issued a Rule Nisi on 17.01.2004 on the respondents to show cause as to why the detention of the fourteen Indian nationals should not be declared to be without lawful authority and why the detainees should not be brought before the Court. The Court also required the jail authorities to investigate into records and to furnish details of the prisoners incarcerated beyond the terms of their imprisonment. The matter was declared as infructuous on 26.06.2012.
