Welcome to the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Repository
Welcome to the Bangladesh Public Interest Litigation Repository (BDPIL)!
This website has been created to make public interest litigation cases filed and judgments delivered in Bangladesh more accessible to the public, ensuring access to important judgments by the Supreme Court regarding breaches of fundamental rights protected by the Constitution, as well as enforcement of constitutional duties by state and public authorities.
Each case link contains a brief summary of the case including, where available, the following information: the names of the parties (the petitioners and respondents), the date the petition was filed, the initial order and/or the final judgment passed, and keywords that allow users to search for the cases more easily on the database. For some cases, a more elaborate description is available, along with a direct link that allows access to the full text of the judgments.
The database has been created by the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) under the Access to Justice for the Marginalized through Community Legal Services (CLS) project, supported by the Department for International Development (DFID), United Kingdom, implemented by a consortium consisting of Maxwell Stamp PLC, as principal contractor, the British Council and the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (UK), as partners.
Special thanks are due to the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers’ Association (BELA), Bangladesh National Women Lawyers’ Association (BNWLA) and Advocate Naim Ahmed for their invaluable contribution to the development of this repository. We also gratefully acknowledge all the organisations and individuals who have provided information or comments for this site.
